It was that faith that would shape the course of the next few years as the community would gather to meet in fellowship and in study wherever God made room for them. It would be another 3 years before the first sanctuary on Alida Street would be completed and another 15 years before the sanctuary on Grand Boulevard was finished. In 1981, the people of Grace Lutheran answered God’s call yet again by founding a neighborhood preschool to foster the development of children of all faiths in a caring and nurturing environment. Creative Playtime continues to serve the needs of families for safe, affordable and engaging preschool education in the Eastchester and Scarsdale communities. The church building may have been finished in 1964 but its legacy is not in its stained glass windows, school classrooms or brick and stucco façade but in its people who after more than 75 years still come together as those 18 people did then to celebrate our faith, our families and our community. Creative Playtime is a community program of Grace Lutheran Church. Children of all religious and ethnic backgrounds are welcome to our school. Creative Playtime provides half and full-day sessions for children ages 2 to 4 years old, as well as a Lunch Bunch hour and Extended-Day options. We are a New York State Licensed facility in a residential neighborhood, with cheerful, large, air-conditioned classrooms and a fenced, safe outdoor playground. Our curriculum is developmental and age-appropriate, promoting growth, social skills, language and self-esteem, and of course, providing lots of fun and creativity in the process! Kids of all ages are welcome to participate in Sunday worship. At Grace, we welcome all kinds of families - and all the movement and sounds that come with them! We have a kids’ space right up front with a table, soft toys, books, and coloring supplies. We learn about God’s work in the world through stories, games, songs, and activities. Kids of all ages are welcome to join us - toddlers and up! The Grace Kids Club GKC meets once a month on Sunday evenings from 5:00-6:30pm in the downstairs classrooms. As our young disciples change and grow, so do the ways they engage faith. We offer First Communion class for those who wish to learn more about this sacrament in this way.
